Before we get into my review of the camera slinger…I need to put out a disclaimer…I got mine for free. Jessica Conroy the sales and marketing director put up a topic on the bschool and asked for some help, I offered and they sent me a camera slinger for my efforts (I am actually still working on what I said I would help them with)…but I am writing this review, because I want to, not because of a pre-arranged deal with them. I love this thing so much, I want to not only help them out, but also help other photogs out.
I am a two-camera guy, there is no way around that and it will not change…but its an absolute pain the ass trying to have two cameras on me with the standard camera straps, so I do not use the straps and just set one of the cameras by me when I am shooting. Issue with that is if I think the lens that is on the other camera would yield a great shot I have to stop and pick it up and see if the shot is still there or if I missed it. That’s a pain in the ass…with the camera slinger, there is no more of that and I can not tell you the absolute helpfulness the camera slinger really is.
This is especially true during the ceremony, where I like my 70-200 and my 24-70…they are always at my sides and ready to go, depending on which I feel would yield a better shot. Nothing is ever missed now, because in a split second I have the other camera up to my face. I have tried this method with normal straps, but they always fall of my shoulders and it was more of a pain then just setting the camera down and doing it that way. This strap has truly changed how I am able to shoot. Now I do not use it all the time, but I do use it religiously at certain times (1st time meeting before ceremony, ceremony, first dance, father-daughter and mother-son first dance) and for those times alone it is worth its weight 10x in gold!
I do have to say, that I saw this when Candice and Jessica rolled it out, I was not sure if I would really need it, I thought it might be a cool little toy to have, but now that I have it…if something happened to it, I would have one on order that same day!
You might not even be a two camera person now, but having this could change that…I think rocking two cameras, opens up the door for so many different shots that it makes what I deliver that much better…so who knows this could allow you to convert, because I think it takes away all the complaints that come with actually shooting with two cameras.
Sure, some say, it looks funny or like a backwards bra, my wife gives me shit every time I rock it…but whatever, its functional and my clients pay me to get the shot and that means being more functional then fashionable. So please tell your clients that you might be willing to miss a shot, because you want to look cooler then wear something that allows you to do your job better and looks a little strange…let me know what they say
I know that something else this thing does is alleviate pain that normal camera straps cause to photographers. Since I never used straps, I can not complain of back pain from them…but what I can say, is that wearing this for an hour or so at a time, causes no back pains what so ever and I have a terrible back…So I do believe that there is some truth to this and if you have back pains due to camera straps…get this as I believe it will lessen those pains dramatically.
I can not tell you how much I truly love this thing, like stated above…I use it at every wedding I shoot a few times through out the day and it has changed how I shoot! Why would you not want to change how you shoot, if it means being more versatile and able to get a better shot?
Go and pick this up right now!!! When you do, please tell them that I sent you…there is no discount for doing so, nor do I receive anything…I just want Candice and Jessica to know that I am helping them spread the word.
I am happy to answer all questions that you may have about this…
